Title: Czech village of Hostetin as model of sustainable rural development
Veronica Ecological Institute has the declared goal of supporting sustainable regional development in the Czech Republic. Through numerous projects the institute demonstrates that sustainable resource management can achieve economic stabilization and create new jobs even in the most remote rural areas. In the village of Hostetin in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Bílé Karpaty, since the 1990s a series of model projects were realized in cooperation with the village, including a sewage reed bed treatment plant, 35 hot water solar systems on private and public buildings, a biomass municipal heating power plant for 80% of the households, energy-efficient street lighting, apple juice plant producing organic juice and a training center built in passive house standard.
