Title: Biogas and biomass in micro-district heating
In the Climate Alliance and e5 community Elixhausen (Salzburg province, Austria) in March 2007 a biogas plant with 100 kW electrical and 150 kW thermal output was put into operation. Annually 800,000 kWh of eco-power and 1,000,000 kWh of heat are generated. The heat is fed directly into the district heating network. In the realm of an engineering project, students of the technical secondary school in Salzburg implemented the electronic controls and monitoring of the biogas plant. Students of the agricultural secondary school in Ursprung handle laboratory work for the operational system; this complements the biological and chemical theory with practical application.
