Title: Photovoltaic energy for Tanzania

Tanzania suffers from a poor electric grid nationwide. For schools and hospitals, photovoltaic (PV) plants often prove to be the only available power supply. Thus in emergencies, human lives can be saved simply by the availability of electricity. In the summer of 2006 a project team from a technical high school in Linz began the planning and construction of a prototype of a PV plant for use in a vocational school in Tanzania. At the end of December 2006 the plant was installed at the school. The construction of this plant and the subsequent training in the foundations of photovoltaics, solar technology was transferred to the staff in such a way that in the future photovoltaic plants for various application domains can be built independently by domestic experts.
