Title: Holistic renovation concept makes 1970s apartment building an energy-efficient money saver
On renovation of this 1970s apartment building (Alboristrasse in Salzburg, Austria), all 15 apartments, which had especially high heating and hot water bills, were upgraded to an energy-saving and environmentally friendly standard. The ineffective floor heating system was cleaned and equipped with new distributors and fittings. In the course of roof renovation, a 45 m² thermal solar unit for heating and hot water was integrated in the existing heating system and the building shell was thermally insulated to modern standards. The shared central heating (previously natural gas) was connected to the regional heating system for Hallein-Salzburg, so that largely renewable energy is used to cover the remaining energy requirement.
