Title: Climate protection through carsharing concept
In 1992 Peter Novy and the organization AutoTeilen Graz built the foundation for a carsharing concept in Austria for the shared use of one or more vehicles by multiple persons. His Assist-Novy GmbH developed Share Assist, a software product with which carsharing in Austria was successfully administered from 1993 to 2000. In 1998 the carsharing company was acquired by DenzelDrive to form the world’s second-largest carsharing company worldwide with over 200 sites and over 10,000 customers. In Austria this has saved 19,600 tons of CO2 to date. One carsharing auto is used on average by 15-20 persons and driven some 25,000 kilometers annually. Thus one vehicle provides the same mobility as four private vehicles, and shared utilization has saved 105.2 million auto kilometers to date.
