Title: Recycling solar modules

From 2004 to 2006 the photovoltaic system of Europe’s largest and only hybrid power plant on the island Pellworm in Germany’s North Sea was renovated to achieve a performance improvement of 30%. The usual costly and environmentally harmful disposal of solar modules was avoided in an action that is unique worldwide. Part of the solar modules were remanufactured by Deutschen Solar AG to produce new modules. The world’s first recycling of photovoltaic modules will yield knowledge that will improve the efficiency and economy of the recycling process. In the context of supply bottlenecks for high-quality silicon, this technology promises enormous future potential.
