Title: Improving energy performance of municipal buildings in Durham
Durham County Council (UK) is the first municipality in Europe to comply with EU Directive 2002/91/EC (display of energy performance information) by providing energy performance certificates in all its 500 buildings. In 2003 the county council made a public commitment to reduce CO2 emissions and water consumption in its buildings within five years. The city council joined the European Municipal Buildings Campaign in 2004, and addressing climate change is now a corporate council priority, as is a target of having no buildings in the Display® energy, CO2 or water classification G by April 2008. In County Durham all public buildings have the Display® poster visible.
