Title: Energy Landscape of Morbach
The region of Morbach (Germany) has set the goal of establishing a renewable energy landscape and achieving energy autonomy by 2020. The combination of wind, biomass and solar energy produce an energy yield of over 30 MW on the 145 hectare property established in 2001. This energy landscape has already saved 30,000 tons of CO2 annually and supplies 13,000 households. The Energy Landscape also contains a solar-powered drinking water treatment plant that was conceived for developing countries and serves the purpose of demonstration in Morbach. The region also puts great emphasis on sustainable environmental policy on the part of local companies.
