Title: Living and learning on organic farm for people with disabilities in Canada
The Mattapoisett Community Sustainable Environment Education Development Systems (MCSEEDS) Society provides a place to live and work for people with disabilities through apprenticeship models in organic agricultural practices. A sustainable lifestyle grounded in environmental ethics enables individuals to integrate as team leaders in SEEDS. MCSEEDS works to break the stigmas surrounding people with mental illness and those marginalized by society. Through ecopsychology and First Nations traditional environmental wisdom, cognitive approaches in life skills training transform an individual’s intuitive expertise and help them to learn farm production structures that increase local food security.
