Title: Revolutionary production restructuring in wood processing achieves climate protection and increased productivity

In its production of wooden louvers, Salzburger Holzindustrie GmbH (SHI) employed the conventional technology in the form of a high-frequency press with ca. 500 KW electric power requirement. With annual production 35,000 m³, this meant 400 MWh/year of power. The installation of a preheating press in March 2007 was accompanied by a complete and revolutionary restructuring of the production process. Together these measures improved production reliability and extended the capacity by ca. 30%. Instead of electric resistance heating, now the district heating network (operated by the neighboring sawmill) could be used to save 266 tons of CO2 and 400 MWh of electricity annually at SHI. The waste heat from production additionally leads to a reduction of heating energy in winter.
