Title: Puzhehei Upper Watershed eco-sanitation project in China
The project tested and demonstrated a holistic resource reuse and nutrient recovery approach as well as various ecological sanitation solutions to address various pollution sources that currently contribute to the water environment problems of a rural watershed area. In the lakeshore villages, efforts were made through a household-centered environment and sanitation approach to reverse the degradation of water quality of Puzhehei Lake, which is important to local livelihoods and a major tourism income source of the local poor people. The project facilitated improvement in school environmental education as well. The project also demonstrated the reduction of CO2 emissions by replacing coal with biogas.
