Title: Learning with solar energy
In the realm of a project in the spring of 2009, the business school in Zell am See installed Austria’s first energy-autonomous PC laboratory with 16 networked computer workplaces. Instead of conventional PCs, ultrathin clients from NComputing are used. These clients require only 5% of the energy of conventional PCs, or 4.5 W, with equal performance. Thus the computer lab can be operated 100% with renewable energy supplied by a photovoltaic system. The total power required for all devices in the room is 700 W; the photovoltaic system is configured to 1200 W. The photovoltaic current is fed via a converter into the circuit of the PC lab.
