Title: Waterless urinals installed at IKEA in Austria

After a pilot phase in Vösendorf, IKEA and New Environmental Technologies are installing waterless, odor-free and waste-avoiding Urined urinals at other sites in Austria. A biodegradable fluid seal provides the odor seal of the urinal; this means no plastic seals that pollute the environment, and the fluid needs to be replaced only every 7000 to 15,000 usages. Because there are no recesses, the urinals are easy to clean. The goal of the project is to save valuable drinking water, to reduce costs for repairs, maintenance and operation, and to ensure long-range benefit for the environment. So far, IKEA Austria has installed 54 waterless urinals to save 20 million liters of valuable drinking water annually. The amortization period per urinal is 12 to 24 months due to water savings alone.
