Title: Ultra-high-strength wall elements with vacuum insulation
A pavilion in Strassburg, Austria, is the first field test of a novel wall structure that combines materials. The walls consist of ultra-high-strength concrete with high compressive strength and elasticity. The energy-saving vacuum insulation in the walls has a very low heat loss of 0.0042 W/mK. The design enables keeping the walls very thin (5 cm), which is an issue in the construction of high-rises. Construction was completed in the autumn of 2008. Studies of the energy efficiency of the building are planned for the winter of 2009. Then the new system will be introduced on the market as prototypes.
