Title: Renewable energy

With its 2000 hours of sun annually, the e5 community of Diex in Austria’s Carynthia is famous as the sunniest place in Austria. The project Solar Power Diex, launched in 2005 with Photovoltaic Austria Federal Association and the Technical College of Wels, strives to utilize this solar power. Public buildings in the municipality have already been equipped with photovoltaic plants and public lighting has been converted to this technology. In addition, all town limit signs have been equipped with PV lighting and residents of the town have a free electric refueling station. A biomass heating plant that feeds the public district network, is fired exclusively with wood chips from local farmers. CO2 emission savings amount to 143 tons annually.
