Title: Eco-energy tourism in Güssing
In cooperation with the European Center for Renewable Energy, ökoEnergieland (founded in 2005) in Güssing in Austria’s Burgenland has produced numerous energy-production plants including district heating, photovoltaic, biogas, and the unique Biomass Power Plant in Güssing. In the context of eco-energy tourism, visitors can now view the innovations and the examples of utilization of renewable energy. The goal is knowledge transfer and consciousness raising as well as the promotion of tourism. 20,000 visitors annually take advantage of the offering. The city of Güssing not only supplies itself with energy; it has created 1000 jobs, 50 new companies have settled, and CO2 emissions have been reduced to 5000 tons/year.
