Title: Baltic Sea management: nature conservation and sustainable development of the ecosystem through spatial planning
The Baltic Sea is being used more and more, whether for shipping, cable lines, pipelines, offshore energy plants, fishing or leisure boating. However, pollution associated with these activities endangers the habitats and natural resources of the Baltic Sea, and the effects of climate change make matters worse. To meet these challenges, the BALANCE project was launched to demonstrate new concepts and practical planning tools for holistic development and for sustainable solutions. The goal is to strengthen planning and management in order to assure long-range utilization of the natural resources and the ecosystem of the Baltic Sea.
