Title: Making Clean Energy Affordable to Poor Island-Dwellers
The project, located in the island communities of Alad and Cobrador, both in Romblon, Romblon, Philippines aims to improve the quality of life of poor families by providing them access to clean and affordable energy for their household lighting and other socio-economic activities. The charging station is complemented by a loan window for rechargeable lanterns. Community-based organizations were tapped as partners to manage the project. Community leaders were trained on project management and operation & maintenance (O&M) of the system to effectively oversee the operation. Tariff system is adopted to cover for operation & maintenance costs and capital investment recovery.
