Title: DEMONSTRATION ECOLOGICAL MANGROVE RESTORATION AT KRABI ESTUARY RAMSAR SITE, KRABI PROVINCE, THAILAND
Wetlands International, Mangrove Action Project and the Asia Pacific Forum for Environment and Development have joined together to restore a former aquaculture pond back to a functioning mangrove ecosystem, in partnership with the local people. This rehabilitation provides a test-bed for the development and demonstration of low-cost but innovative techniques to implement ‘ecological mangrove rehabilitation’, which re-establishes the site’s natural hydrology, topography and facilitates natural regeneration. Nypa palm in particular will be encouraged as it is used extensive but sustainably by local people in their livelihood activities. They will also benefit from the other mangrove ecosystem services and food sources.
