Title: Supporting the implementation of rainwater harvesting systems and favoring food security

The project concerns the promotion of secure access to water for agricultural use through the implementation of adapted technical solutions, the use of participatory cartography tools and rural women’s empowerment in the indigenous territories of Telpaneca and Mozonte, departments of Madriz and Nueva Segovia, North of Nicaragua. As the result of a coordinated work between a French NGO, a Nicaraguan farmers’ organization and local indigenous authorities, since 2007, 34 rainwater harvesting systems have been implemented and are now allowing 74 farmers and their families greater food security in 13 communities where annual rainfall barely reaches 600 millimeters
