Title: Jordanian pilot project for energy-efficient design and construction
AREE is an energy-efficient building, the first of its kind in Jordan. Inspired by the need to reduce the cost of electricity for local residents, who pay on average 30% of their income for air conditioning, AREE demonstrates the economic and technical feasibility of energy saving and renewable energy solutions for different income levels all in one showcase building. Energy demand is reduced by 70% compared to traditional buildings, for a payback within seven years through: climate-conscious design, improved construction techniques and materials, and the use of renewable energy technologies. AREE was recognized as the pilot project of choice for Jordan by Med-ENEC, a Euro-Mediterranean cooperation program on energy-efficient buildings.
