Title: Energy wood and landscape
The goal of this project is to determine the potential (within ecological limits), to build harvesting technology and logistics for recording energy wood, and to sign planting contracts in the region of Lake Constance in southern Germany. Furthermore, the technical suitability of various types of wood and the economy of acquisition and processing will be determined. Energy exploitation of domestic biomass makes an important contribution to climate protection, while various types of utilization harbor great danger for nature conservation. A positives example is the booming wood pellet technology, although pellet production from byproducts of saw mills has already met its limits in price and quantity. At the same time, the utilization of wood from landscape care measures and from forestry on short rotation areas still holds immense potential. Such areas are to be used conservationally to reduce CO2 emissions and to increase biodiversity.
