Title: District Poverty Initiative Project
Haritika works with people whose lives are dominated by extreme poverty, illiteracy, disease or other handicaps. With multifaceted development interventions and poverty reduction programmes, the organization strives for a positive change in the quality of life of poor, disadvantaged people of the region of Bundelkhand in central India. Haritika’s mission is to promote dignity and gender equity and accelerate societal emancipation and alleviation of poverty. The organization’s District Poverty Initiative Project therefore focuses on empowering rural poor, especially women, to gain control over the direction of economic and social development. For instance, the project includes infrastructure development which provides income generating activities. In general the activities are varied with regard to the needs of the respective community and include the construction of concrete roads, causeways, school buildings, community halls and sanitation facilities.
