Title: Conservation and purification of water by removing water hyacinths in lakes for poverty reduction
The COVAGA Cooperative fishes herbs called amarebe out of rivers and let them dry in the sun. After drying those herbs, they are used to produce different materials. In the Bugesera district, there are nine rivers, most of them containing these herbs, called amarebe. The COVAGA Cooperative fishes those herbs from two rivers and from the Akagera valley, in order to protect the animals living in these rivers. With putting aside those herbs, the cooperative also stops the dimination of water. Out of the material of the herbs, the COVAGA Cooperative is able to produce handicrafts like bags, hats, shoes, handbags, chairs and so on.
