Title: Aweil South Trees and Food production initiative
To meet the identified community needs (water, food, cash, fuel and shelter), four agroforestry technologies were designed which combined:
• niche (homestead, internal and external crop plots boundaries),
• spatial arrangement (home garden, block plantation, hedgerow, alley cropping, boundary plantings, etc.), and
• Functions identified both by the community (food, cash, fuelwood, timber, fencing and boundary markings) and by the planning team (environmental purposes and secondary functions: soil fertility improvement, erosion control, organization and trading).
