Title: Passive house kindergarten

Since autumn 2008, children in Lower Austria can attend kindergarten from age 2½. To meet the space requirements in the city of Baden, a new building had to be erected, and the city opted for a passive house structure. A large part of the building was built with wood framing; insulation was almost exclusively cellulose. Energy is supplied by a biomass regional heating network. Large windows optimize the use of daylight. Showcase projects like the kindergarten in Baden motivate others to build with sustainable energy efficiency and natural resource conservation in mind.
