Title: Rainwater Harvesting Project – Galle District

In the course of this project, rain water tanks are to be established to guarantee an adequate supply of water for domestic and agricultural purposes for almost 400 families living in the villages Middaramulla and Ahungalla. These tanks provide the possibility to accumulate and store water during rainy seasons in order to put it at people’s disposal during dry periods. The project will raise the villagers’ living standard as the consumption of safe water will improve their health conditions and they can avoid long distances to get water. Furthermore water costs will be reduced and the families will be given the chance to keep small home gardens. The project will be implemented by Saviya Development Foundation, a government approved NGO engaged in community development, poverty reduction, and health care.
