Title: The Application of Parabolic Trough Technology under Jordanian Climate Conditions
The project discusses the use of this proven technology for electricity production under Jordanian climate conditions. Investigations on power output, efficiency and direct solar irradiation have shown that Ma’an in the southern region of Jordan is the most suitable site for erecting a power plant using the parabolic trough technology. This electric generating system is a perfect option for countries with high solar irradiation levels and scarce resources of fossil fuels. As Jordan is poor in natural resources, it is totally dependent on imported oil to cover the ever increasing energy demand. Therefore it is in the government’s interest to implement efficient technologies like this one to enable the country to utilize its indigenous sources of solar energy.
